From minute aquatic plants, animal and insect life, to countless bird and animal species
, the world famous DELTA MARSH and surrounding countryside is a biome filled with diverse
ecosystems.
The DELTA
MARSH, located about 55 miles from the City of Winnipeg lies adjacent to Lake Manitoba's southern shore. Separating
the marsh and the lake is a low, narrow, heavily wooded sand ridge that skirts the shoreline from East to West. The 36,000
acre marsh area consists of many freshwater bays, creeks, channels, mudflats and meadows all interconnected by gently flowing
waterways. The islands and mainland which form this extensive wetland are densely covered by bullrushes, cattail, flagweed
and marsh grasses.
The DELTA MARSH is separated from the 30,000 acre LAKE
FRANCIS MARSH to the East by a narrow strip of land that begins at the lakeshore of the
expansive Lake Manitoba. This narrow strip of land extends and spreads southwards to the rich and fertile soils of the Red
River valley and the Central Plains of Manitoba. In between the Agricultural plains and the marsh are the woodlands covered
with dense stands of trees such as Poplar, Maple, Oak and Willow.
The DELTA MARSH and surrounding countryside offers excellent opportunities
for many outdoor activities. Whether it's birdwatching, canoeing, tours, hiking, bike riding, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling,
or hunting, the region has exciting adventures for everyone.
